Düsseldorf – Guy Denning ‘Shooting Angels’ at Pretty Portal

I got to know the art of Guy Denning at the 2009 Upfest Festival in Bristol. The image he painted was that of a woman. Even when I thought the artwork was finished, he added some more layers to make it complete. What an incredibly artist, who has been creating art since the 80s. If you are in Dusseldorf soon, please do visit his ‘Shooting Angels’ exhibition at Pretty Portal. Opening is Friday 17th April.

If you are not familiar with Guy Denning’s art, here is a short introduction. He has been obsessed with visual art since his childhood and started painting when he was eleven years. He has exhibited across the UK since 1992 and since 2007 also in USA, Italy, Germany and France. His art is contemporary, punk-inspired, and has a twist of embedded collaged and stenciled text. This aesthetic, blended with a political narrative, has found Denning a loyal audience in the collectors of urban art.

In his exhibition ‘Shooting Angels’ he portrays images of, well, shooting angels. It tells the story of, for example, the fallen, the spoken word and man in man’s image. He does so with his blended grayish/brownish style.
