Amsterdam – Jaune solo show at Vroom & Varossieau
2016 was a very successful year for Belgium street artists Jaune. He painted his striking characters in for example Oostende (Belgium) for the Crystal Ship, The Student Hotel in Amsterdam and in Stavanger (Norway) for NuArt. This new year starts with a solo show at Vroom & Varossieau gallery in Amsterdam. The exhibition titled ‘I wish you could see this for real’ is on view from 21st January until 26th February 2017.
Jaune’s stencil art has sanitation workers as the main characteres in all of his artworks. It was in 2011 that he decided to paint these characters and make them visible. Even though the real life works are wearing fluorescent and yellow clothing, outside the streets they are not being noticed by the average person.
One of the main characteristic of Jaune’s work is the tension of the moment. He represents daily situations trough funny elements, often focussing on the moment just before something dramatic is about to happen. His images always carry a strong message, transparent or hidden, and indubitably, the starting positions of every interpretation are humour and whimsy.
Most of the stencilled characters are Jaune’s friends or relatives. The artists himself is also portrayed in fluorescent clothing in his artworks. How many times can you spot him?
His solo show ‘I wish you could see this for real’ shows new works of stencils on canvas, stencils on 3D wooden artworks, mini trash bags and one stained glass window.
Also, on the ever changing mural inside the gallery Jaune painted a huge artwork with numerous of his striking characters. If you take a look at the tags on the wall, you will find tags by D*Face, Eine, Fanakapan, Ox-Alien, Laser 3.14 and Mick La Rock.
See you at the opening on Saturday 21st January.
